Press release: temporary suspension of adoptions in Haiti is renewed
On 15 March 2020, the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs issued a three-month order suspending international adoptions in Haiti. The suspension was first renewed on 9 June 2020.
The context of insecurity in Haiti led authorities to renew the order until 31 August 2020. This applies to all current procedures that had not led to matches before the end of the initial order’s entry into force, on 15 March 2020.
The order was once again renewed until 31 December 2020. Consequently, proposals for children may not be sent to French applicants. No new applications for adoption candidates may be filed with the IBESR (central Haitian authority) before 31 December 2020.
COFA Lyon, alongside the French Federation of AAAs and other AAAs working in Haiti, is looking for solutions with Mission de l’Adoption Internationale, in the interests of adoptable Haitian children.
